Germinating Growing Mats (10-pack): the soil-free base for clean microgreen harvests

Want a tidy, soil-free microgreen harvest with almost no effort? The LaNiTex Germinating Growing Mats are non-woven polyester fibre pads, engineered to fit the LaNiTex Smart Microgreen Kit and wick water straight to your seeds — for fast, even germination without daily watering.

In a nutshell: a 10-pack of single-use polyester fibre microgreens grow mats (35 × 24.8 cm) — the soil-free growing medium for the LaNiTex Smart Microgreen Kit. Each mat wicks water from the reservoir to keep seeds evenly moist, then lifts out clean at harvest. 10 mats = 10 grow cycles, about $1.49 each. $14.90, ships across Australia.

Why the grow mats are essential

  • Automated watering through wicking. Forget daily watering — the non-woven polyester fabric draws moisture up from the reservoir to keep the mat evenly saturated for your seeds.
  • Made for LaNiTex microgreen kits. Sized to fit the LaNiTex trays exactly, so they work in harmony with the self-watering system — consistent hydration, no soil mess.
  • Better germination. The textured fabric gives seeds a stable, constantly moist surface to sprout quickly and anchor their roots — higher germination rates and a more even harvest.
  • Clean and effortless. Lay a mat in the tray, scatter your seeds, and let the wicking do the rest. At harvest, just lift and discard the used mat — no scrubbing.

Food-safe, independently certified. Our growing mats are tested to the German LFGB food-contact safety standard (Sections 30 & 31) — confirmed free of detectable lead, cadmium and pentachlorophenol, with no odour or taste passed to your crop. Safe for growing food you'll actually eat.

Getting the best results

Seed density matters. Smaller seeds — basil, radish, broccoli — should be sown fairly densely across the full mat. Larger seeds such as sunflower and pea benefit from a little more spacing. As a guide, cover most of the mat with minimal gaps, but don't stack seeds more than one layer deep.

In Queensland's subtropical climate, summer humidity can run high. Good airflow around the tray reduces the risk of mould on the seed surface — especially in the first few days before the seedlings emerge — so avoid an enclosed, unventilated spot.

Each mat is single-use: replace after every harvest for consistent germination. With 10 mats you have enough for 10 full growing cycles — or 5 cycles across two trays at once.

Frequently asked questions

What are the LaNiTex Germinating Growing Mats made of?
The LaNiTex Germinating Growing Mats are made from high-quality non-woven polyester fibre. Each mat measures 35cm x 24.8cm x 0.4cm. The polyester construction wicks water from the reservoir upward to keep seeds and seedlings constantly hydrated without daily watering or soil.

Which LaNiTex systems are the growing mats compatible with?
The growing mats are designed specifically for LaNiTex Microgreen Kits and microgreen trays. They serve as the growing medium in place of soil — seeds are placed directly on the mat surface and germinate in the hydroponic environment. One pack contains 10 mats.

How do the growing mats keep seeds hydrated?
The non-woven polyester fibre acts as a wick. It draws water continuously from the reservoir in the microgreen tray upward through the mat, keeping the seed surface moist at all times. This eliminates the need for daily hand-watering and creates consistent germination conditions.

Can I reuse the LaNiTex growing mats?
The growing mats are designed for single-use per growing cycle. After harvest, discard the used mat, clean the tray, and place a fresh mat for the next crop. Each pack contains 10 mats, giving you 10 full microgreen growing cycles. At AUD $14.90 per pack, each grow cycle costs approximately $1.49 for the mat.

How many growing mats come in a pack?
Each pack contains 10 germinating growing mats, priced at AUD $14.90. They are sold by LaNiTex Hydro Garden on the Sunshine Coast, QLD (ABN 47 682 768 967), and are available for delivery across Australia.

Pairs with your kit

These mats are the refill your kit runs on. Made for the Smart Microgreen Kit (Black Metal) and the Smart Microgreen Kit (Wooden) — keep a spare pack on hand so you never pause between sowings.
