Hydroponics in your classroom — a full-term grow project with multiple plant varieties.

The TG-03 Rental gives Queensland primary school classrooms access to the full LaNiTex Smart Grow Box for one school term. Students plant multiple varieties of herbs and leafy greens simultaneously, track growth across the term, and harvest fresh produce before the break.

The Smart Grow Box is a multi-tier hydroponic system with LED grow lights and an automated water circulation system. It grows herbs, leafy greens, and small vegetables without soil.

What's Included

The rental includes the full LaNiTex Smart Grow Box — a multi-tier system with LED grow lighting, an automated water circulation pump and timer, growing nets, and growing medium. STEM curriculum-aligned resources are included to support the project across the term. A 12-month warranty is included.

Setup requires one standard power point and takes approximately 30 minutes. No plumbing, no soil, no outdoor space required.

Curriculum Connections

The Smart Grow Box project supports Australian Curriculum V9.0 outcomes across:

  • Science — plants and their needs (light, water, nutrients), life cycles, biological sciences
  • Maths — measurement (plant height, growth rate), data recording, pH and EC as applied measurement
  • Design & Technologies — design thinking, food systems, sustainable food production
  • HASS — food production, sustainable agriculture, community and environment

The multi-week growing timeline makes the TG-03 well suited to term-long projects. Students track plant growth from seedling to harvest, compare growth rates between varieties, and connect classroom science to real-world food production. Unlike the TG-01 and TG-02 rentals, the Smart Grow Box supports multiple varieties simultaneously, which creates more opportunities for comparison, data collection, and science investigation.

Why Hydroponics Works in the Classroom

Hydroponic growing is faster than soil-based growing and produces measurable, predictable results. Leafy greens such as lettuce typically reach harvest size in 25–35 days under LED lighting — fast enough for a complete growth cycle within a school term.

Because hydroponics removes soil from the equation, students can observe the effect of light, water, and nutrients more directly than in a traditional garden bed. The system also runs autonomously once set up: the automated timer controls water circulation and lighting, so students are not responsible for daily watering.

The Term-Grow Program

The TG-03 is the flagship product in LaNiTex's Term-Grow Enrolment program — a term-based rental scheme for Queensland primary schools. Founder Laszlo Bulatko runs the same Smart Grow Box at home in Sippy Downs. Lettuce was ready to harvest in 25 days. Capsicum and herbs have been running continuously since early 2025.
